My beloved and I recently began celebrating special events with quesabirria tacos at our favorite Mexican restaurant. (Our friend Bubba Stewart got us hooked on them.) Quesabirria. We say it over and over, never getting it exactly right. It’s a struggle to roll our “r’s.” Ignacio and Ariel patiently repeat the correct pronunciation to no avail.
Sir Walter Scott, on his deathbed, asked his son-in-law and biographer, John Gibson Lockhart, to read to him. Lockhart, observing the many books written by Scott, asked him, “What book shall I read?” Sir Walter replied, “Why do you ask that question? There is but one book; bring the Bible.”
Hebrews 4:12 reminds us that the Bible is alive and active, meaning it applies to today, it applies to now. No matter how many times we read it, we can find something new and exciting – like buried treasure – hidden in the pages.

We are studying about anger in Sunday School. So, we made volcanoes. Stirring flour, salt, and warm water together, we kneaded the dough, then shaped it around cans to make volcano shapes. This Sunday, we plan to paint them.
A normal scenario at our house involves "strong discussions" over who will get to shower last. Now, mind you, most things at our house are based on who gets to go first.

When Lynn* came in for Bible study at the jail, it was clear she was struggling. As she shared some of her story, we realized she had struggled her whole life. She told of the abuse she suffered as a young child, bringing tears to my eyes. Burned. Molested. How could parents/family do that?! The abuse left scars inside and out.
I don’t know why, but it always seems like this time of year presents a struggle for me. Maybe it’s the “winter blues.”
When I read true stories of people in the Bible who turn from the Lord, my stomach clenches. I know what is coming. “Don’t do it!” I want to yell. But their story has already been written. I only have to turn the page to see what happened.
